Ripped this idea from Bill Simmons, thank you for this Bill. "Wild depression is soon to take over Chad Everett Underwood. He will simply not be able to function. When his Steelers lost the Super Bowl, he lost the will to live." Anybody that thinks this needs to be a comedian. It really is that funny. At the end of it all, football does not matter in the slightest. My beliefs, family, friends, and girlfriend all rise above sports, although my reputation displayed otherwise when I was younger. The issue at hand is that today, Febuary 7th, 2011, is that it is not the end of it all. I'm really pissed about what occured yesterday. So instead of the text messages, the phone calls, and the facebook chats, I will now Q&A myself to answer what some people might like to know. If you don't care, that is fine, this is like therapy for a broken hearted sports fan. Chad, the Packers were favored in this game for a reason. Why were you so against it? Because of the whole "experience" factor. We had 25 guys with Super Bowl experience to the Packers two. It made sense. I was wrong. The experience killed us early, cause the Steelers had been there before and were just way too relaxed. It helped in the second half, because Green Bay had no clue how to hold on to the lead and without the Mendenhall fumble they would not have. But I'll address that later. Nah, I'd rather make you miserable. Lets address it now. The fumble was the turning point, right? No. Double No. Roethlisberger's two picks were just awful. His head was not in the right place till the second half. Plus even with all of their miscues, with two minutes to go they had a chance. I was beyond confident. It was setting up almost identical to Super Bowl XLIII. But as we all know now, thats not how it happened. What did you think about the 4th & 5 pass interference no call? I thought it was garbage. A player cannot trip another player as they are catching a ball, it is called interfering with them. Should have been a first down and every cheesehead in America knows it. To be completely honest though, we should have never been in a fourth down situation. Ben should have been managing the game and working the sidelines for first downs. Pittsburgh had already hurt Charles Woodson and like half their team, we should have played much better in that situation. But they didn't Chad! So What does this do to Ben's Hall of Fame resume? This game does nothing to it. He is a two time Super Bowl Champ, he will eventually own some passing records in Steelers history, and is 10-3 overall in the playoffs. If anything it helped him just because he was in the game. Dan Marino got in and he never was a champion, enough said. Ben has now lost a Super Bowl though, Terry Bradshaw never did that. So what? Compare him to the "elite" of today: P. Manning (1 ring), T. Brady (3 rings), and D.Brees (1 ring). He is still right in the hunt for being the best (if not the best) QB of his time. By the way, Brady and P. Manning have both lost Super Bowls and year after year everyone is still raving over how 'elite' they are. This should not change for Ben either. What are you doing right now, at this second, besides writing this column? My hands are currently covered in icing from a cookie cake I have been eating out of semi-depression for the past hour. I am also drinking out of a 2-Liter of Mountain Dew and flipping between Jersey Shore and Glee. Life is tough right now. If you could say one thing to one person on the Steelers right now, what would you say? I would pull Ben aside and tell him that if he never wins another Super Bowl and never again gets accused of raping someone that I would be ok. Then I would probably follow him around until I got arrested. Do you now hate the Green Bay Packers? Nah. I have alot of respect for them. No doubt in my mind they will be back in the Super Bowl alot sooner than people think. I usually don't hate teams unless they have a bitter rivalry with the team I cheer for. One pet peeve I had with the Pack is their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Don't get me wrong, he is a fantastic player, but the way he presents himself and acts is just a little bit too much arrogance for my liking. In my mind, I tend to believe this game is your job and you are supposed to be a professional, not a professional jerk. You have been wearing Steelers' clothes for two weeks now, so what will you wear tomorrow, now that your two week tradition is long gone? I will be wearing a Steelers hat, Steeler sweatpants and my favorite Steelers t-shirt. Unlike alot of fans I have encountered in my life, win or loss, I will always be there. Even if the following occurs in 2012: Ben breaks his arm in the preseason, Lamarr Woodley signs with the Ravens, and Mike Tomlin is arrested on charges of cocaine possession and we hire Lane Kiffin as his replacement. I will always be there. Because I am not a football fan; That is just way too general for my liking. I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and damnit, I will always be there. Always.
